Pattern Drafting | 10th & 11th August

10-5pm, 10th and 11th August

This two day course is a fantastic introduction to Pattern Drafting, and the wonderful world of designing your own patterns.

We shall start by drafting the basic block, from there we’ll create a Toile (a calico mock up) which we’ll learn to fit, transferring all fitting notes to the pattern to create a ‘working pattern’. From this the truly exciting stuff begins as we design and create a pattern from our working pattern.

Learning to draft your own patterns can relieve you of all the quirks of commercial patterns, and in starting to design your own garments any sewer can begin to truly stretch their creative and sewing abilities. It is advised you begin to design the garment you wish to create as soon as you book on the course however; we shall be discussing this on day one and indeed, it will be homework for Saturday evening!

All materials will be provided in the cost of the course, as well as a workbook with instructions and places to keep your notes and samples for future reference.  Machines, tools and general sewing equipment are available too however; you are more than welcome to bring along your own machine.

A light lunch as well as break time tea and cake are provided in the price of this class, and it is a good chance to peruse the collection of books, patterns and small shop of lovely things.

All classes will be held in my lovely home studio in Downend, Bristol. Full details will be given once you are booked.
